The Untitled Interview #90 – SXSW Edition: Starring Kyle Harris (The Diamond Center)

The days are getting longer, the nights are getting shorter and sweeter, and that, my little vixens, can only mean one thing: it's getting close to being almost time for the one and only SXSW. And of course, that means I had to ask some questions of the bands I'd sure want to see if I was heading down to Austin for the 25th annual SXSW-stravaganza.

Being a former denizen of Richmond, I've had the pleasure of knowing about The Diamond Center for a little while now. But before last November, I hadn't had the pleasure of seeing this delightful sprawling, ambling, psych-heavy rock outfit in the flesh. I was, shall we say, rather impressed. If you happen to be down in Austin as we speak, make it a point to check these River City lads and lasses out. Read on to see how TDC's Kyle Harris plans to take over Austin. Seeing as he's a wanderer, you might just bump into him somewhere along the way.

Les Enfants Terribles: How are you getting to SXSW: plane, train, or automobile?
Kyle Harris: Van. On the way is great. On the way back- armpit city.

LET: Inevitably, you will forget to pack:
KH: Pain reliever!
LET: How many showcases/parties will you be playing?
KH: One official, 4 unofficial day parties. One Houston show on the way.

LET: Band you're most looking forward to seeing at the festival?
KH: A couple- Moon Duo and Lumerians.

LET: What's the first thing you plan on doing upon arrival in Austin?
KH: Grabbing a cold Ziegenbock (only sold in TX) and some REAL Tex-Mex.

LET: What was the first festival you ever attended, either as a musician or member of the general public?
KH: Hmm. WRAS 88.1 Georgia State University’s station used to throw an amazing festival called Sonic Sunday, later called WRASfest. I think I saw the Cramps, Ride, and maybe Ministry in one day!

LET: Favorite thing about festivals?
KH: Not having to be confined to one stage. I like to wander.

mp3: Caraway (The Diamond Center from the forthcoming Caraway/20Twin 7")
