The Untitled Interview #80 – SXSW Edition: Starring Love Inks

The days are getting longer, the nights are getting shorter and sweeter, and that, my little vixens, can only mean one thing: it's getting close to being almost time for the one and only SXSW. And of course, that means I had to ask some questions of the bands I'd sure want to see if I was heading down to Austin for the 25th annual SXSW-stravaganza.

Love Inks is another one of that herd of Austin bands getting their kicks during this year's installment of SXSW. However, this is a band that definitely stands out from the expectedness of Austin's tendency to house fuzz-loving droners and garage rockers or whiskey-swilling countrymen (or some other spaced-out variation therein). I mean, they use a drum machine, y'all. And the voice at the helm isn't raspy, sleazy, or howling. It's that of a chanteuse, a dancefloor diva even. Love Inks has my attention, perhaps they'll grab yours as well. Below, the band sure does seem a little excited to see Yoko Ono...

Les Enfants Terribles: How are you getting to SXSW: plane, train, or automobile?
Love Inks: Plane and bicycles and walking and driving, we live downtown but we really don't…

LET: Inevitably, you will forget to pack:
LI: Batteries for our pedals, our heads because they're not screwed on.

LET: How many showcases/parties will you be playing?
LI: 4 give or take a few.

LET: Band you're most looking forward to seeing at the festival?
LI: Yoko Ono!!!!

LET: What's the first thing you plan on doing upon arrival in Austin?
LI: Party! Or taking Marco to a bar.

LET: What was the first festival you ever attended, either as a musician or member of the general public?
LI: Lilith Fair (yay 90s), Bob Marley fest, Primus Fest.

LET: Favorite thing about festivals?

LI: All the babes and Yoko Ono, all the breasts, parties, brewskies, 420!, bikes, sunshine.

mp3: Blackeye (Love Inks from Blackeye)
