The Untitled Interview #67 – SXSW Edition: Starring David Longoria (The Black)

The days are getting longer, the nights are getting shorter and sweeter, and that, my little vixens, can only mean one thing: it's getting close to being almost time for the one and only SXSW. And of course, that means I had to ask some questions of the bands I'd sure want to see if I was heading down to Austin for the 25th annual SXSW-stravaganza.

We're gonna stick with Austin for the time being, my sweeties, and get to know a little band called The Black. This here band is awesome for a multitude of reasons. Sonically, they bring a modern spin to glorious golden classic rock, at home equally well with the best twangers and folkster rockers of days gone by and the current incarnation of the same ouevre of our time and place. I have a sneaking suspicion they're also deadly good live. So then, dear SXSW attendees, it might be in your best interest to make sure you make time for The Black. Just a suggestion. Below, David Longoria marinates on SXSW 2011.

Les Enfants Terribles: How are you getting to SXSW: plane, train, or automobile?
David Longoria: well, we live down the street. So, we'll just pack the gear in our van and head downtown.

LET: Inevitably, you will forget to pack:
DL: We might forget a guitar, or a drum, but we can just go right back home and get it if we do. We're pretty good at the idiot check, so we probably won't forget a thing.

LET: How many showcases/parties will you be playing?
DL: Right now we're just playing our showcase, and maybe we'll play a party or two. It's all a mystery to us as of now.

LET: Band you're most looking forward to seeing at the festival?
DL: Gosh, I don't know. Michael 5000 Watts is playing that will be cool. Will we make it to anything? Playing it by ear.

LET: What's the first thing you plan on doing upon arrival in Austin?
DL: We're already here! But we are arriving in every moment, I guess we'll do the I'm so damn alive dance!

LET: What was the first festival you ever attended, either as a musician or member of the general public?
DL: Me, I attended the Western Fest, and I saw some 90's country acts there. I was 10 or something.

LET: Favorite thing about festivals?
DL: People watching is cool...music watching is cool too.
